John Lindsey

Meet John Lindsey and daughter McKenna -- You all know the "Big Guy." What can we say? He's the only guy we know that could talk a chicken into buying a pet fox. But only if the chicken needed a pet fox, of course! John's dynamic personality is the driving force behind Big John's Building & Home Center. He started in Cedaredge, Colorado, working for his dad at Cedaredge Lumber (now Big John's Lumber), when he was just "a little shaver." Then he decided he wanted to be a doctor. But the wood chips just kept calling him, and eventually his entrepreneurial bug took over. His dream was to put a do-it-yourself hardware store in Glenwood Springs. He did his homework thoroughly, putting together a business plan, a mission statement, a funding strategy, and a demographic study, and launched the company in 1988 with $200,000.00 worth of inventory, eight employees and a lot of energy and determination. Today, his ever-expanding business has far surpassed those early projections, and what started as a small company has become a force to be reckoned with (just ask BMC!). The company now has close to a million dollars in inventory and employs 35 people year round. If your question needs to go right to the top, consult the "Big Guy".

Meet Dave Spence - Dave cut his teeth in the lumber business, literally.  His mom was a bookkeeper for a large lumber yard in Ft. Collins (it was an easy walk to work - they lived right next door!), his dad was a home builder and developed several neighborhoods in and around Ft Collins.  All three of his brothers are in the construction industry currently.  Dave acted as general manager and purchasing agent for a $45 million/year contractor yard in Denver before coming to Glenwood Springs in September 2003.  He started at Big John's in January 2004.  He currently heads up the contractor sales division as general manager and sales manager.  His experience in operations and logistics serve him well in moving the loads out accurately and on time.  Having the materials our contractors need when they need it is his chief aim.  "Once we have a customer, I will never lose them due to a service-related issue."  Dave spends his free time raising two sons, acting as a board member for the Defiance Thrift Store, snowboarding, skiing and "going Moabular, dude".  His wild sense of humor makes him easy to work with - so, if you need a load of material yesterday, call Dave!

Tom Henderson

Meet Tom Henderson -- Tom ended up in Glenwood pursuing his love of the great outdoors. He graduated from CMC in 1976 with a degree in Recreation Supervision and Natural Resources Management. He worked for the next several years as a ski instructor, white water specialist, and professional rafting guide - then he had to get a real job! He worked in the construction industry doing all phases of construction until 1995, and then he applied for our newly launched Contractor Sales Division. With 15 plus years of construction experience under his belt, Tom was in on the ground floor of this new endeavor, helping to form this division into one of the busiest and most successful facets of Big John's. He quickly formed lasting working relationships with many of our area contractors, and works hard to see that their projects come together as planned. If your question relates to building products, techniques, or projects, just ask Tom.

Lonnie Fisher

Meet Lonnie Fisher -- Lonnie joined the Big John's team in the fall of 1999, and what an asset he has turned out to be! Already well established in the Contractor Sales business before his arrival, he jumped in and took off as if he had always been a part of the team. Lonnie is strictly business (until Miller time anyway!). He has been involved in the contract sales/construction arena since the early 80s. He owned and operated Anchor Forest Products in Beaumont, California for five years, then owned his own contracting firm (framing and masonry) for the next eight years, managing up to 175 employees at any given time. He worked for many years in the area of contractor sales. This varied experience puts Lonnie in a position to truly relate to the concerns of our contractors as they work at making a living in our unique (aka: high cost of living) community. If your question relates to building products, techniques, projects, or you just want a sympathetic ear as you lament the woes of the contracting business, Lonnie is your guy.

Meet Sean Paxson - Sean is the newest member of the Big John's contractor sales division.  He moved to Vail in 1993 and spent 13 years there running his own specialty door and window business, Paxson Enterprises.  He started with Big John's in December 2005 and has taken off running.  Sean's expertise lies in custom doors and windows.  He is also well versed in moldings, millwork and custom entry systems.   He provides take-offs and on-site verification of projects.  Sean isn't all work and no play, however.  In his off-time he expresses his creative side as a guitar player and lead singer for the country western band "Derringer".  Catch his act sometime!

Meet Tom Maher - Tom graduated from the Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in biology. He first came to Glenwood Springs with his father-in-law in 1974 and fell in love with the area. Four years later, he and his wife moved here. Tom spent a few years in the construction trade, and then he went to work for Glenwood True Value, where he remained until their closure when the school district bought the property that the store was located on. After 20 years of service as the manager at Glenwood True Value, Tom came to Big John's in January of 2006. His knowledge of hardware and household repairs is simply unsurpassed. And his desire is to help you with your home repair projects. If your question has to do with household repairs or hardware of any kind, Tom is the guy to ask.
